How To Make Your Own Body Scrub At Home My Best Recipes

Making a natural sugar body scrub is as easy as gathering the ingredients needed, and mixing them all together.

Here Im giving you my best recipes.

Keep in mind that sometimes, depending on the quality and brand of ingredients you use, you might need to add more or less sugar and/or carrier oil.

To get the recipe right, aim at a sandy consistency. If the mix is too soupy or runny, the sugar will dissolve too fast. Hence you wont be able to use the scrub. If that happens, simply add more sugar.

What Are The Benefits Of Body Scrubs

Exfoliation with a body scrub, or with other types of products like a brush or loofah, can help boost the health and appearance of your skin in several ways.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, exfoliation can leave your skin looking brighter because it removes the top layer of dead skin cells. It can also stimulate the production of collagen, which may help your skin stay firm and radiant.

Another benefit of exfoliation is that it can improve the efficacy of topical treatments. If you exfoliate your skin before applying a cream, for example, the cream will be able to penetrate more deeply instead of sitting on the surface.

In addition, massaging your skin with a body scrub can also be a wonderful way to relax and feel calmer, especially if youre tired or stressed.

Can Sugar Scrubs Be Used On The Face

Sugar scrubs can absolutely be sued on the face so long as you are using them properly!

Its very important that when using a sugar scrub that you dont over-exfoliate or exfoliate too harshly.

When used improperly, scrubs can actually cause irritation and inflammation if the scrub is too abrasive.

We love brown sugar in our scrubs, well cover more about it later but, one of the reasons is that it tends to be less abrasive than other sugars!

If you choose to use a sugar scrub on your face, dont use it more than once or twice a week and rather than scrubbing, use light circular motions to exfoliate.

Homemade Sugar Scrub With Essential Oils

In the recipe below I provide an option to add citrus zest or essential oils to the sugar scrub for scent, but it is still wonderful on its own. This is a great basic starter set of essential oils that I love. Each of those scents would make a wonderful addition to the scrub and add extra benefits.

  • Citrus is said to boost your mood and energy.
  • During cold and flu season I like to add OnGuard essential oil.
  • For more of a spa vibe I use eucalyptus and lavendar essential oil for a really soothing blend.
  • If you dont want any fragrance or benefits other than the scrub you can simply leave the essential oils out.

I also provided the option of adding vitamin E oil for an extra moisture boost. This is not required and the sugar scrub is wonderful with just the coconut oil and sugar, but Ive found the extra nourishment from vitamin E is so nice for super dry hands!

Do Sugar Scrubs Need A Preservative

An easy sugar scrub recipe recipe does not technically need a preservative since there are no water based ingredients. However, since you use the scrub on wet skin in the shower or bath, there is a risk that you can introduce water and bacteria or other germs from your hands. Therefore, I recommend using a preservative in a homemade sugar scrub recipe if you store it for later.

How To Make Sugar Scrubs To Sell

If youd like to make sugar scrubs to sell then you need to take steps to ensure the integrity of your product. This includes following food manufacturing practices, labeling your products correctly, testing your finished products, and following your local state and federal guidelines for sale of your products.

Here are the basic steps to making sugar scrubs to sell:

  • Test recipes using different ingredients. Keep careful records for your ingredients and suppliers. I recommend weighing your products instead of using volume measurements like cups. Make sure that you use the appropriate preservative type and amount.
  • Use your scrub recipes yourself and give to friends and family to test for 3 to 6 months. Ask for reviews from friends and family.
  • When youve decided on your final recipe, create a large batch and place in containers for sale following good manufacturing practices. When you create your labels, be sure to include all necessary information, including ingredients in descending order. Check local, state and federal laws to ensure that your products are in compliance.

I also recommend the books Good Manufacturing Practices for Soap and Cosmetic Handcrafters by Marie Gale as well as Soap and Cosmetic Labeling: How to Follow the Rules and Regs Explained in Plain English. What Does 1 Part Sugar And 4 Parts Water Mean

How to Make Sugar Water for Hummingbirds

A part can be any type of measurement but will always be equal. To calculate 1 part sugar and 4 parts water for your recipe, first choose a measurement for one part. Then, do some simple math:

1 x = total sugar

4 x = total water

For example, if you want to make a large batch of sugar water, you might decide that for your recipe 1 part = 2 cups.

1 x 2 cups = 2 cups sugar

4 x 2 cups = 8 cups water

So, in this example, you would mix 2 cups of sugar with 8 cups of water .

To make a smaller batch of sugar water, you might decide that for your recipe 1 part = ½ cup.

1 x ½ cup = ½ cup sugar

4 x ½ cup = 2 cups water

So, in this example, you would mix ½ cup of sugar with 2 cups of water .

This Nectar Recipe Seems Too Easy Do I Really Just Use Regular Table Sugar And Water

Yes! It really is that easy!

Natural nectar found in flowers is mostly a sucrose solution. Luckily, white sugar is also made of sucrose, so when its mixed with the appropriate amount of water, it closely resembles natural nectar that hummingbirds find in nature.

Dont try to get fancy and use brown sugar or an artificial sweetener in your recipe. Neither of these will work nor will be good for hummingbirds! Please stick to plain old white sugar.

Tips For Hummingbird Nectar Recipe:

You need to concentrate on the following tips to make perfect nectar for hummingbirds.

Purified Water:

Sometimes normal water contains some harmful chemicals and has a strong taste, so you need light purified water to make perfect nectar. You can also boil the water for that purpose, but make sure you dont reduce water volume during boiling. It may increase the sugar concentration in the water. If you are a little confused, buy this cheap purified water or any other of your choice.

Refined sugar:

Sometimes you use the unrefined sugar in place of regular white sugar and think that its ok. But unrefined sugar is very heavy compared to regular white sugar, which may cause harmful effects on birds. So always use refined white sugar to make perfect nectar-like natural nectar obtained from flowers. We are recommending you one that works best, but you can buy any white sugar.

The ratio of sugar and water can be slightly adjusted but always try to maintain the perfect ratio of 1:4 ratio of sugar and water. Less sugar water is not attractive for birds because they get sweeter nectar from flowers. The more sugar-concentrated water is not easy for birds to digest. So always try maintaining a perfect concentration 1:4 ratio of sugar and water.

Is Nectar The Only Food That Hummingbirds Eat

I asked this question the first time I made nectar at home and realized that hummingbird nectar is basically a fancy name for sugar water! There had to be something of substance they also ate to supplement their diet?

Upon more research, I learned that hummingbirds get their protein by feasting on small insects and arthropods .

Proper Maintenance And Care

How to Make Hummingbird Food (Sugar Water Recipe)

If youve decided to feed the hummingbirds that visit your yard, make sure you use the best hummingbird feeder, one that comes with plenty of nectar ports, and is easy to refill and clean. When youre shopping for a feeder, make sure you buy one that has a small tank or water bottle area. This is because sugar water spoils fairly quickly, especially in hot weather, so using a smaller feeder will cause you to fill it more frequently, which can prevent birds from feeding on spoiled sugar water. Make sure you clean the feeders often and choose a feeder thats easy to clean out. The feeder should also come with several perches that will allow a hummingbird to rest while they eat. If the type of feeder you purchase has a dispenser bottle, choose a glass one over a plastic model since glass tends to last longer and plastic can quickly turn yellow.

  • Never spray insecticides or other poisons near bird feeders.
  • Properly clean feeders, replacing nectar every 5-6 days in cooler climates, or 2-3 days in warmer areas.
  • Hummingbirds also drink plain water, so keep a birdbath available nearby.

Can I Use Honey In The Nectar Recipe

No. Adding honey to this nectar recipe will not help and can actually be dangerous to hummingbirds. This is because when honey mixes with water, it ferments rapidly, which spoils the nectar and creates an environment that lets bacteria and fungus thrive.

If hummingbirds feed on rotten nectar, it can lead to a deadly infection that makes their tongue swell. It makes their tongue so large that they have trouble even fitting it back into their bill. Unfortunately, this sickness almost always leads to a slow death.

And if your still not convinced, think about this fact:

Hummingbirds dont eat honey naturally! Have you ever observed or heard about a hummingbird raiding a honey bee nest? Honeybees are not even native to North America, so at no point in history did hummingbirds evolve to eat honey or have access to the stuff except for the last few hundred years.

Just stick to the simple nectar recipe that calls for 1 part white sugar and 4 parts water. Its human nature to try and improve everything, but this is an example where more intervention harms hummingbirds.

Boiling Is Only To Slow Fermentation

While boiling will help slow the fermentation of the nectar initially, the nectar in hummingbird feeders is contaminated as soon as it is sipped by a bird. Therefore, it is not necessary to boil the nectar once the sugar has been dissolved. If you use extra fine sugar or stir the nectar vigorously, no boiling or heating may be needed.

Do I Need To Boil Sugar Water For Hummingbirds

How to Make Hummingbird Sugar Water & Choose a Feeder ...

Courtesy Rhonda Horrall

Is it necessary to boil the sugar water mixture for hummingbird feeders? I just stir until the sugar is dissolved. Ive always wondered if its safe to make my hummingbird food recipe without boiling, asks Amy Kernes of Brea, California.

Opinions differ on the importance of boiling the hummingbird food mixture. We always do boil the water to neutralize some impurities that might be in the water or sugar. Besides, sugar dissolves more easily in hot water. But as soon as the feeder is outdoors, contaminants will get into the water anyway, brought by hummingbirds, insects or just a breeze. So at best, boiling the mixture keeps it fresh a little longer. If your water is good and your time is limited, washing the feeder thoroughly and often is more important than boiling the sugar water mixture.

Using really hot water will usually suffice to dissolve the sugar. However, if you plan on making extra hummingbird sugar water to store in the fridge or you have so-so water quality, then its best to boil.

Its always best to stick with real white sugar in your hummingbird feeders. Say no to sugar substitutes and brown sugar.

Where Should I Place My Hummingbird Feeder

There are a couple of points you should keep in mind when placing the feeder:

  • Shade: The feeder should be covered from the sun, This makes sure the nectar stays good as long as possible and also gives the birds a spot to cool off.
  • Visibility: Just because you should put the feeder in a shaded spot doesnt mean you should hide it completely. The feeder should still be visible to passing birds.
  • Safety: This can be from harsh weather like strong wind, intense rain and blazing sun. But also other animals that may harm the birds while they try to eat.

How to Make Hummingbird Food (Sugar Water Recipe)

Making Honey Sugar/Powder

Artificial SweetenersArtificial and low-calorie sweeteners, such as aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, and neotame are considered the worst of the worst in the realm of alternative sweeteners. While the actual science is still out on the safety of aspartame and saccharin, theres plenty of anecdotal evidence that shows this stuff just isnt that good for you.

Many people report headaches, stomach aches and a general ill feeling after eating artificial sweeteners. And some studies have shown that chemical sweeteners can actually change the bacterial makeup of your microbiome, throwing your entire gut health out of whack.

The FDA does a pretty terrible job of regulating this industry, so its pretty hard to know if what youre eating is safe. Sucralose is the worst offender. Others like Nutrisweet, Truvia and a number of brands from the stevia plant claim to be better, but theres little data to support any claims.

High-Fructose Corn Syrup

This one almost goes without saying. High-fructose corn syrup, which is made through a chemical process thats anything but natural, is one of the worst offenders for insulin spikes, as it doesnt have to be digested by your body. This stuff simply filters right into your bloodstream and goes wild.

Sugar Alcohols

The problem is that your body cant digest most sugar alcohols, so they travel to the large intestine where they are metabolized by gut bacteria.

May Improve Heart Health

Swapping out regular sugar for high-quality honey in your diet may improve different aspects of heart health, as it has been shown to reduce several risk factors for heart disease.

For example, one 30-day study comparing the effects of table sugar and honey in 55 people found that honey helped decrease levels of total and bad LDL cholesterol while increasing good HDL cholesterol (

8 ).

Additionally, animal studies have found that supplementing with honey may reduce systolic blood pressure , another major risk factor for heart disease .

Animal and human studies suggest that trading regular sugar for honey may help reduce cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure.

What Is Crystallized Honey

I think we all saw crystallized honey at some point in our lives. When honey got crystallized, some parts of it started to look more solid and lighten than the actual color of the honey. This part is called crystallized honey. Just the same taste as your regular honey except the shape and color is kind of different than usual.

Sometimes people throw their jar of honey just because it got crystallized in the edges, that is just not true. It would be such a huge waste of food and money to throw it away, and its not a green environmental thing to do. You can enjoy your crystallized honey, just as same as your liquid honey on bread, with oatmeal inside your tea or else.

If so, then what is happening with this different shaped and colored formation inside the honey? Its not something else besides, its the same honey, but solid form. The only differences between liquid honey and crystallized honey are its texture and color. In crystallized honey, because of the amount of sugar, it consists, by the time it gets more solid shape. If you are curious about how and why it got crystallized, go on and read the explanation down below.

Honey vs. Sugar: Are Honey and Sugar Okay For Diabetes ...

When it comes down to it, moderation is the name of the game with both sweeteners. Overconsumption of either one can lead to some serious health issues, and while honey has a better reputation because of the additional nutrients, by no means is it a healthier alternative. Sugar is also generally preferred for baking, but that post-sugar rush crash is no joke. The takeaway is this: treat yourself occasionally, but dont overdo it with either sweetener.

Health Benefits Of Honey

Honey contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals, including niacin, riboflavin, thiamin and vitamin B6. It can also aid digestion. Sugar does not have these benefits. Honey is also typically less processed than table sugar.

The effects of honey were equivalent to the medication Dextromethorphan, which is available under brand names like Robitussin Pediatric Cough Suppressant, Tylenol Simply Cough and Vicks 44 Cough Relief.

Honey In The Supermarket

The sad truth about a lot of honey on our supermarket shelves is that it potentially may not be honey at all. According to the Guardian, a recent study suggests that 75 percent of honey in US supermarkets comes from unknown origins.

You see, scientists examine the nectar to pinpoint where honey is from by determining what plants the bees used to pollinate the nectar. However, since most of the bottles found on our shelves have the nectar filtered out of it, theres no telling geographically where it came from and just how much of it is actually real honey . This could mean that a lot of the honey you see is with added sugars and mixed with high fructose corn syrup.

So be sure to check the labels.

How Long Does It Take Honey To Crystallize

There are different types of honey that honey producers produced in the markets. The crystallization duration varies according to the type of honey. Some honey can get crystallized within a couple of weeks, and some of them may not get crystallized for months or even years. It depends on these three main factors

1. The type and percentage of the sugar honey consists.

2. Different applications used in the process of honey processing

3. Storage degree of the honey

The honey contains different types of sugar, fructose and glucose . The main thing that affects the time of crystallization is the percentage of these sugars.

If honey contains a high percentage of glucose sugar, with a low fructose sugar ratio against glucose sugar, the crystallization process will occur swiftly. Your sugar may get crystallized within a couple of weeks. Examples of such honey types are cotton, mesquite, alfalfa, mustard, dandelion.

Opposite of this, when honey contains a high fructose sugar level than glucose sugar, the crystallization procedure can take even years because, with a high fructose level, crystallization will occur slowly. Theres no need to be worried about your honey being fake, just check out the fructose sugar and glucose sugar level in the table of contents and you will know what to expect from your honey. Robinia, Tupelo, sage, and Longan can name as examples of that kind of honeys.

The Different Types Of Honey

There are over 300 different types of honey worldwide.1 They differ in colour, aroma and flavour depending on the plant source where bees collect nectar. Some of the most well-known types of honey are manuka and acacia honey. 1

Honey can be broadly categorised into raw and processed honey. 1 When honey gets extracted from the beehive, it usually gets strained to remove wax and other non-honey particles. It is then available in its raw honey form which can be further heated and bottled to be available as processed honey, the form which is most commonly available in supermarkets. The heating and bottling process removes potential pathogens, but also the vitamins and antioxidants present in raw honey.

Sugars In Honey Vs Sugar

Honey and sugar are both sweet, but they have slightly different components. Sugar is made up of a type of simple carbohydrate called sucrose. Each molecule of sucrose has one molecule of glucose bound to one molecule of fructose. Overall, sugar or sucrose is 50% glucose and 50% fructose.

Honey, on the other hand, is about 35% glucose and 40% fructose. It has about 9% sucrose, and smaller amounts of some other simple carbohydrates. Though sugar and honey are both mainly made up of glucose and fructose, honey tastes sweeter because most of its glucose and fructose is not bound together into sucrose.

Honey Nut Cheerios Contains More Sugar Than Chips Ahoy

Brown sugar vs Honey

Posted by Briana Santoro on Feb 2, 2015 in Products Undressed

Growing up as a kid I totally fell for all the hype. I can actually remember thinking how cool I was when I ate a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. My mom was really into health and refused to buy us sugary cereal. However, after much convincing, my brother and I managed to get her to buy us a box in the summer at the cottage as a treat. I thought I was in heaven. Each spoonful tasted AMAZING! Now that I have stripped down the ingredient list I can see why. Honey Nut Cheerios is loaded to the brim with SUGAR!

In fact, this product contains so much sugar that according to a report by the Environmental Working Group, Honey Nut Cheerios contains more sugar than Chips Ahoy! Just 1 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios contains 12 grams of sugar and 3 Chips Ahoy! cookies contains 11 grams. I havent yet met a kid who doesnt love eating dessert for breakfast. Have you?

When we undress this product to see if it looks good naked the facts are clear. This is a refined sugar-filled breakfast cereal that is not a healthy breakfast option.

Let’s compare alternative sweeteners to refined sugar

There have been so many articles recently saying that sugar is to blame for a multitude of illnesses and issues: obesity, diabetes, Alzheimer’s… The list goes on. Studies claim that, as a nation, we’re addicted to sugar, and that it’s as bad for you as opioids. But a recent article in The Outline called “Who’s Afraid of Sugar?” discussed many common beliefs about how sugar is harmful and served to debunkor reexaminemost of them.

This part of the story, in particular, caught my eye: “Its a commonly held misconception that sugars from fruit are ‘better for you’ than sugars from, say, jelly beans, but thats only because an apple has much less sugar than jelly beans. The simple sugars in each are metabolized in the exact same way. Your pancreas really doesnt care where you get those sugars from, just if youre getting them or not.”

Sugar from fruit is no better for you than sugar from candy. Sugar’s just sugar. Things that we think of as having refined sugar just may have a whole lot more of it. The story points out that an apple has 19 grams of sugar, while 100 grams of jelly beans has 70. So, it’s still not the worst idea to look for sugar alternatives.

If you’re someone who takes their sugar with a little coffee, there might be a better way to get that sweet stuff. Here are some common alternative forms of sugar, and how they differ from a spoonful of the regular stuff.

Is It Better Than Sugar

Honey has a lower GI value than sugar, meaning that it does not raise blood sugar levels as quickly. Honey is sweeter than sugar, so you may need less of it, but it does have slightly more calories per teaspoon so its wise to keep a close eye on your portion sizes. For diabetics, or those trying to manage their blood sugar levels, there is no real advantage to substituting sugar for honey as both will ultimately affect blood sugar levels. Its also worth remembering that like other syrups, honey is classed as free sugars the type we are advised to cut back on. If you do prefer honey, try to choose a raw variety, which contains more vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants and nutrients than white sugar and use it in moderation. It is worth remembering, however, that any nutritional benefit from consuming honey is negligible.

How To Purchase Honey

Not all honey is created equal.

In fact, some low-quality brands are often mixed with syrup in an effort to cut costs and maximize profit.

While it may be slightly more expensive, opting for a high-quality brand of raw honey is a simple and effective way to guarantee youre getting the best bang for your buck.

Unlike regular honey, raw versions are not pasteurized, filtered, or processed, allowing them to retain their potential natural health-promoting properties .

Whats more, choosing a raw variety ensures that your honey is free of added syrups or extra ingredients that can diminish possible benefits.

Keep in mind that raw honey should never be given to children under one year of age due to the risk of infant botulism, a serious disease caused by toxins from a specific strain of bacteria called Clostridium botulinum.

After the age of one, the digestive system is typically developed enough to fight off potentially harmful toxins and minimize the risk of disease .

Glycemic Index Of Honey And Sugar

The glycemic index, or GI, indicates how fast and how much blood sugar levels will rise after eating food with carbohydrates. The higher the GI, the faster and higher your blood sugar level will rise for a specific amount of carbohydrate.

The glycemic index of sucrose, or sugar, is 65, according to Harvard Medical School . The glycemic index of honey varies because the exact composition of honey varies. One study, published in Diabetes Care, found it to be 61 . Since the glycemic index of honey can vary from low to high, and there is no way to tell before you eat it if it is low or high, it is not safe to assume that it is low. Instead, it is safer to assume that honey will affect your blood sugar similarly to white sugar.

Honey Vs Sugar: A Comparison

Honey vs sugar: which is the best? Is honey better than sugar, are there any health benefits of eating honey, and if so, should we try and substitute honey for sugar?

Here is a comparison of honey and sugar based on nutritional values and calorie content expressed as aPercentage of the Ideal Daily Value and based on a typical daily calorie intake of 2000. I think this is the best way to put honey in perspective, so that we can really see where honey holds its value in our diet.

In particular, in our comparison of honey vs sugar we’ll take a look at:

  • calorie and carbohydrate comparison of honey vs sugar, including carbohydrate type
  • Vitamin Content
  • Protein and Amino Acids Content
  • Mineral Content

I have compiled the results into separate nutritional tables . Only when armed with the facts can we really consider whether honey is healthier than sugar!

In order to add further perspective, I added in a further food : actually an apple!

Why an apple? Well why not? Especially where minerals are concerned, I thought it would be a good idea to compare honey with an additional every-day, healthy food.

More Difficult To Digest Than Honey

As previously said, sugar does not contain the enzymes that honey does, so is more difficult to digest.

It is possible to consume too much of both honey and sugar. The risks of overconsumption are the same for both, as well. The main concerns are:

  • weight gain
  • blood sugar peaks and crashes
  • increased risk of tooth decay

Therefore, both products should be used in moderation or not at all. While honey does have some health benefits, they are mostly observed when used in response to specific issues, such as a cough or allergies, or when used topically, which does not affect blood sugar levels.

If opting for honey over sugar, choose dark, raw varieties, which contain more nutrients, enzymes, and antioxidants.

Variations Of The Keto Diet

Is Honey a Better Substitute for Sugar?

There are a couple of variations on the keto diet, and you can eat a small amount of honey on each one. The first is the targeted keto diet. This version allows you to have 20 to 50 extra carbs within an hour of your workout. You could eat a tablespoon of honey either just before or just after your workout.

Another variation of the keto diet is called the cyclical keto diet. This is designed for people who exercise and it involves sticking to the standard keto diet five days a week and then loading carbs the other two days. This way, you replenish your glycogen stores for the week, and it is a good idea if you exercise a lot and need the extra energy. You can eat some honey on the carb-loading days.

You may be able to have honey on the standard keto diet, as long as you know that it wont kick you out of ketosis. Everyone is different, and some people have to have much less than 50 grams of carbs, whereas some can have a little more. You need to get to know your own body to find out where you fall.

Sugar The Other White Stuff

Here is a simple sugar conversion to honey chart to convert white sugar to honey or maple syrup. It is about the weight of the sugar used not necessarily how it is measured. A liquid will weigh more than the small white sugar crystals. If you are unsure you can always weigh the correct amount of sugar and then measure out the equal weight in honey.

Under 1/4 cup you can substitute equal amounts, since it is so insignificant. You may need to play around with cooking times, since you are adding more wet ingredients to the dish. I would add less oil or milk by half of the natural sugar you are adding. Example: if using 1/2 cup honey use 1/4 cup less milk or oil. This may take a little trial and error to get it just right. But these tips will get you on the right path faster.

You can also replace sugar with natural ingredients like applesauce or bananas. These will add a natural sweetness as well as an additional flavor to your dish. What Is Hennessy Made From

Kerry Hennessy Age, Height, Weight, Biography, Net Worth ...

Like every other cognac, Hennessy is made from grapes grapes grown in the Charante region of France. With its chalky, stony soil and sunny temperate climate the region is perfect for vine growing.

For Hennessy, the cru is made up mostly of Ugni Blanc grapes, which have prevailed as the dominant grape in the Cognac region. Only the eau-de-vie from the first four crus is used due to its fruity, light white wine ideal for distillation.

The grapes are pressed to get the juice which is left to ferment for two or three weeks using modern fermentation processes, usually in October. Yeast is added to the juice, which helps convert the sugar in the juice into alcohol of about 7% to 8%.

The fermented juice is then distilled through a time-tested method which uses traditionally shaped Charentais copper stills, also known as an alembic. Two distillations must be carried out the resulting eau-de-vie is a colourless spirit of about 70% alcohol.

The distillation process is done twice for the wine to qualify as a cognac usually the resulting eau-de-vie is a white water-of-life spirit with 70% alcohol.

Once the distillation is done with, the wine is then stored in casks made from the nearby Limousin or Tronçais forest. The wood is perfect for aging cognacs due to their low resin content.

The age of the cognac is calculated as that of the youngest component used in the blend. The blend is usually of different ages and from different local areas.

A Brief History Of Hennessy

When Irishman Richard Hennessy distilled his first barrel of Hennessy in the Cognac region of France in 1765, one can imagine hed possibly be rather pleasantly surprised that nearly three centuries later it would constitute half of the worlds Cognac supply, selling 50 million bottles per annum.

Its doubtful too, that he would envisage the 40% liquor being hugely championed by high-profile African-American rappers first and foremost, in no small part because rap music did not exist in 1765.

If he were alive now, hed likely be overwhelmed that the late Tupac Shakur named a song after his tipple. As far as product placement goes, it doesnt really get better than that. After knocking a few backs, whos to say Hennessy himself might not start tapping his foot to the tune.

The Keys In The Casking

Finally, the Cognac is casked in oak barrels, whose wood is sourced from the forests of Limousin or Troncais. This process is nothing if not fastidious! There is reason to the rhyme, however. This type of wood is perfect for ageing Cognac due to its dependably low resin content.

Interestingly, the oak itself alters the final taste of the Cognac, offsetting the sweeter, fruitier notes with a dry nuttiness, resulting in a well-rounded flavour profile.

Aside from strict moderation, for people with type 2 diabetes the key to drinking safely is to choose alcoholic beverages that are low in sugar and carbs. Monster Energy Vs Coffee

In terms of pure caffeine, a Monster Energy drink and the same serving size of coffee typically have similar caffeine content. Of course, depending on the roast, brew method, and bean type, coffee can have widely varying caffeine contents too.

For regular brewed coffee, made by pouring hot water over a filter or in a French press, the average caffeine content is around 100 mg per 8-oz. serving. Espressos generally have a higher caffeine content than brewed coffee, but since espressos are typically consumed in smaller servings, less caffeine is consumed overall. A typical espresso is around 1.5 oz. of liquid, containing roughly 6065 mg of caffeine, and the same goes for espresso-based drinks, such as cappuccinos and lattes.

Monster Energy Caffeine Content

There are over 50 different varieties within the Monster Energy line, and some of them, such as the Java Monster, contain an astounding 300 mg of caffeine per can. Others, like the Monster Unleaded, contain less than 20 mg of caffeine per can. Most of these varieties are available in the United States only, but other than these two examples, all the drinks have similar caffeine content across the range.

The original green Monster Energy drink contains 160 mg of caffeine per 16-oz. can, although the Mega Monster is also wildly popular, with 240 mg of caffeine in a 24-oz. resealable can.

Not all caffeine is made equal, though, and not many consumers realize that the caffeine in their favorite drink may be synthetically produced. Although synthetic and naturally occurring caffeine is chemically almost identical, synthetic caffeine goes through many steps to be converted from its initial form ammonia into caffeine and is often exposed to harsh chemicals during its synthesis. In small quantities, this is not usually dangerous or harmful to humans, but consuming large quantities on a regular basis may become problematic. Also, synthesized caffeine is absorbed through the digestive system far quicker than naturally occurring caffeine, resulting in a faster energy spike and unfortunately, a quicker crash.

When you think of a “dietary supplement,” you might think of things that you buy at places like Whole Foods that make grandiose promises. However, Monsters used to be considered “dietary supplements.” The FDA loosely defines a dietary supplement as… anything that supplements your diet. I wish I was being hyperbolic: “The law defines dietary supplements in part as products taken by mouth that contain a ‘dietary ingredient.’ Dietary ingredients include vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and herbs or botanicals, as well as other substances that can be used to supplement the diet.” Heck yeah, Monsters have all of these things! They’re basically vegetables, right? These days, Monster’s labelled as an “energy drink”the definition of which seems to be as elusive. Overall Energy Drinks Manufacturers Have Reduced The Sugar Content In Their Products Since The Sugar Tax Was Introduced

SOME ENERGY DRINKS contain up to 17 spoons of sugar and twice as much caffeine as an espresso, according to a new report.

A survey carried out by Safefood found that, overall, energy drinks manufacturers have reduced the sugar content in their products in response to the introduction of the Sugar Sweetened Drinks Tax in 2018.

However, there has been an increase in the proportion of drinks being sold in bigger serving sizes.

The tax was introduced in a bid to tackle obesity levels in Ireland.

The research found that the average sugar content per serving of energy drinks has fallen by approximately two teaspoons of sugar down from 31g in 2015 to 23g in 2019.

Of the three leading energy drink brands Lucozade, Red Bull and Monster who have a combined market share of 80%, there was a reduction in the sugar content of the market leader but no reduction in the sugar content of the other two.

The report notes that before the introduction of the sugar tax, 74% of energy drinks in the Irish market would have been eligible for taxation that is, containing at least 5g of sugar per 100ml. The 2019 research shows that only 41% are now eligible for taxation.

The snapshot survey was carried out by Safefood in April. It identified an increase in the number of energy drink products for sale with a large increase in drinks sold in 500ml servings , and no change in the number of drinks sold in 250ml servings.

A 500ml can of Relentless has 0.70g of sodium or salt.
