This chicken liver dish is not only quick and simple to prepare, but also extremely healthy. One of the healthiest organ meats is chicken liver, which you may not know. Also, if you're looking for more simple recipes like this one, you should try this blackened salmon. This is yet another easy, one-pan meal that is a staple in our house.

Ingredients

Aside from the chicken livers, you'll only need five other things to make this dish.

And given that they're all pantry staples, you probably already have everything you need on hand.

In any case, here are the components of this chicken liver dish:

  • 1, sliced, large onion
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb newly harvested chicken livers
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp Powdered garlic can be used instead.
  • ½ tsp optional chili flakes
  • Succulent, new parsley

You'd agree that this is all pretty fundamental,

Alternatives and Suggestions for Ingredients

The great thing about this chicken liver dish is that you can adjust the seasonings and other ingredients to suit your own personal preferences.

For the livers, for instance, garlic powder and chili flakes can be added for extra flavor and heat. If you go this route, I suggest serving them with lemon wedges. The garlic's natural aroma is enhanced by the tanginess of the juice.

In addition to serving the livers with the pan drippings, you can also make a creamy mushroom sauce by sauteeing some chopped brown mushrooms in the drippings and then adding some cream. My better half really enjoys it when we prepare chicken liver in this manner.

Finally, if you want to give the caramelized onions a little something extra, try switching from white to yellow onion. Many times we have used this alternative and the end result was delicious.

Chicken Liver Preparation

Again, properly cooked chicken livers require little time and effort to prepare.

Once the liver and onions are ready to go, the rest of the recipe can be prepared in under 20 minutes. Actually, that's the bare minimum Moreover, as I've already stated, everything cooks in a single pan, making preparation and cleanup a breeze.

Let's not dally any longer and get to work on those chicken livers.

Raw sliced onions in a black skillet with olive oil. A bottle of oil and a small bowl of garnish can be seen on the side.

First, get the chicken livers ready.

To begin, you must chicken livers should be dried with paper towels before cooking. As a matter of fact, i Chicken livers can be soaked in cold water for 15 minutes to three hours to remove some of their gamey flavor before being rinsed and patted dry.

After the chicken livers have dried, they can be cut in half and the excess fat and green color removed.

To Begin, Peel and Chop the Onions

Then, in a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium. After heating, you can a add the sliced onions to the pan and begin cooking them.

To achieve this, heat some olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the onions, stirring frequently, until they are golden brown and slightly charred. Expect about 10 minutes of sauteing time.

After the onions are done cooking, place them on a plate, cover, and set aside to keep warm.

Thirdly, sauté some chicken livers.

The next step is to add the chicken livers to the onions in the same pan and cook them over medium heat.

At this stage, they're also ready to be seasoned to perfection with any herbs and spices you like. I season them with salt and pepper every time, as I already mentioned, but occasionally I'll also use garlic powder and chili flakes.

As a side note, remember that the livers need to be cooked for about 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the chicken livers are done cooking, return them to the skillet along with the caramelized onions and toss to combine.

Serve with your preferred accompaniment, and finish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley. Enjoy

A Recommendation for the Storage of Extra Chicken Liver

As a result, a small family can have enough chicken livers for dinner with this recipe.

And The leftovers are simple to store if there are any. Simply pack away the remaining chicken livers and onions in a sealed container. They will keep for three days if stored in the refrigerator in this manner.

If you'd like to keep the chicken liver and onions for a longer period of time, you can freeze them in a sealed container or a freezer-safe bag. They can be safely stored in the freezer for up to three months if frozen no later than day two after cooking.

To Reheat Liver From Chicken

You should reheat your leftovers, of course.

The best way for me to reheat them is in a skillet over low heat. Before you decide to go this route, though, you should keep in mind that Before re-frying the chicken livers, add a little more oil (or butter). For uniform re-heating, stir them frequently while reheating.

The chicken liver can also be reheated in the oven. Heat the liver and onions for 5-10 minutes at 325°F (160°C) until warm. Optionally, you can add a little water or broth to the baking dish.
