1) What You Will Need In Making Yummy Gummy Bears Recipe With Corn Syrup

Ingredients

  • One box of flavored gelatin, about 3 ounces (you may select any flavor you want. It may be raspberry, lemon, orange, pineapple, lime, or strawberry).
  • One pack of unflavored gelatin, about 7.2 grams
  • 1/4 tsp of citric acid
  • 1/4 cup of corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup of water, at room temperature

Equipment

  • Two pieces 1-inch silicone bear molds
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Medium-sized microwave-safe bowl
  • Soupspoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Baking sheet

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1

In a medium-sized and microwave-safe bowl, combine your flavored gelatin and citric acid. Afterward, stir until well combined.

Step 2

Then, add your corn syrup and water to the bowl. Afterward, stir the mixture gently using a soup spoon until all ingredients combine well. Avoid stirring too fast because it may add air bubbles to your mixture. Also, keep it slow and sweeping. After that, allow your gelatin mixture to sit for about five minutes to let your gelatin bloom.

Step 3

Once the gelatin has bloomed, stir your gelatin mixture. Then, place it inside the microwave; set on high heat for about thirty seconds. Afterward, stir the mixture again. And microwave for another fifteen seconds. Next, repeat the heating process of fifteen seconds three times for a total of one minute and a half. If you can see air bubbles forming on the surface of your gelatin, stop heating. After that, stir it gently to remove the bubbles.

Step 4

Afterward, let your gelatin mixture sit for about ten minutes. Make sure to stir your mixture every two minutes. With this, you can observe that it is more clearer over time. Then, take your bear silicone molds. And grease them lightly using a non-stick cooking spray.

Step 5

After that, gently pour your gelatin mixture into a measuring cup with a spout. Then, carefully pour your gelatin mixture into the bear silicone molds. Avoid filling each bear with the gelatin mixture to the top; leave a little room in each mold.

Step 6

Next, let your gummy bears sit for about thirty minutes. Once done, place the molds inside the refrigerator for another thirty minutes.

Step 7

When your gummy bears are firm, push each piece out of the bear molds. And arrange them on a baking sheet. Position each of the bears where they are standing upright.

Step 8

Then, let your gummy bears sit in that position for forty-eight hours. And lay them on their backs for another twenty-four hours. This process is long. But, it will help your gummy bears dehydrate so that they will become chewy like the store-bought ones. Depending on the climate where you lived, the gummy bears could shrink after seventy-two hours. If it did not shrink, leave your bears for another day or more until they have a chewy consistency. Afterward, toss your gummy bears around as often as you can so they will dry out.

Step 9

Ultimately, when you achieve the right chewiness, you can place your gummy bears inside an air-tight container. And they will usually last for about two weeks.

With just 5 minutes of prep and a few pantry staples, my grandmother's one pan homemade Hamburger Helper is a quick and easy dinner recipe that kids and adults will love! Top it with cheddar cheese, and serve it alongside a salad, cornbread, or biscuits. The made from scratch pasta and ground beef skillet is always a weeknight winner!

Homemade Hamburger Helper Beef Pasta

This homemade Hamburger Helper is one of those simple dinners that will be a regular lifesaver for your busy family. It only requires one pan (which equals fewer dishes to clean up), and the meal practically cooks itself after about 5 minutes of hands-on prep. There's no need to boil the pasta before you add it to the ground beef and sauce. Everything cooks together in a single skillet for a flavorful, family-friendly meal in about 30 minutes!

What is Hamburger Helper?

The original Hamburger Helper is a packaged food product, made by the Betty Crocker brand, that consists of boxed dried pasta with seasonings in a powdered sauce packet. The idea is that you simply add ground beef to the boxed ingredients and dinner is on the table!

There are many, many varieties of the prepared dish -- from pizza and nacho flavors to bacon cheeseburger, Italian shells, and beef Stroganoff. This homemade recipe most resembles the Chili Macaroni Hamburger Helper, thanks to the ground beef, elbow pasta, and rich tomato sauce that's seasoned with plenty of zesty chili powder. It's so much better than the boxed version!

Ingredients

This is just a quick overview of the ingredients that you'll need for a pan of homemade hamburger helper. As always, specific measurements and complete cooking instructions are included in the printable recipe box at the bottom of the post.

  • Ground beef: or substitute with ground turkey, ground pork, or ground chicken.
  • Water and beef broth: the liquid base for the sauce. You also need the water to cook the pasta.
  • Elbow macaroni: there's no need to boil the noodles before adding them to the pan. They cook right in the sauce, releasing starches that help to thicken the mixture.
  • Tomato paste: gives the sauce a thick, rich tomato flavor.
  • Minced dried onion, garlic powder, and chili powder: these add savory, zesty flavor to the sauce.
  • Brown sugar: balances the acidity of the tomatoes, giving the dish a more complex tomato flavor.
  • Worcestershire sauce: adds salty, umami flavor.

How to Make Homemade Hamburger Helper

You only need a handful of pantry staples -- plus hamburger meat -- for this easy dinner recipe that cooks entirely in one skillet. You just can't beat childhood favorites for cozy, comforting family dinners!

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet until no longer pink; drain off the fat.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat and simmer (uncovered) for about 15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, the liquid reduces, and the sauce thickens.
  4. Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over top, if desired, and garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

What to Serve with Ground Beef Pasta

This one-pot meal pairs nicely with any of the following easy sides:

  • 3-Ingredient Buttermilk Biscuits, Flaky Biscuits, Cheese Biscuits or Drop Biscuits
  • Skillet Cornbread, Honey Cornbread, Corn Sticks, Mexican Cornbread or Sweet Cornbread Muffins
  • Crusty French Baguette, Jalapeño Cheddar Bread, Cheddar Chive Beer Bread, Soft Dinner Rolls, or Homemade Crescent Rolls
  • 3-Ingredient Sour Cream Muffins, Applesauce Pumpkin Muffins or Pumpkin Bread
  • Green Salad with Red Wine Vinaigrette, Wedge Salad with Homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, Caesar Salad, or our favorite House Salad with Candied Pecans
  • Fried Corn
  • Southern Fried Apples or Baked Apple Slices
  • Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower
  • Roasted Broccoli or Broccoli and Cheese
  • Roasted Asparagus or Sauteed Asparagus
  • Amish Green Beans with Brown Butter, Arkansas Green Beans with Bacon, or Southern-Style Green Beans
  • Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots
  • Sauteed Zucchini
  • Cranberry Sauce
  • Balsamic Roasted Root Vegetables

Storage

Leftover hamburger helper will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat the meal in a covered skillet over low heat just until warmed through, or microwave individual servings for about 1 minute. I do not recommend freezing this dish. The pasta will swell and change texture in the freezer, resulting in a mushy texture when reheated.

Recipe Variations

  • Swap out the ground beef and use ground turkey, ground pork, or ground chicken instead.
  • In a pinch, vegetable broth or chicken broth will be a fine substitute for the beef broth.
  • Don't have dried minced onion? Substitute with about 2 teaspoons of onion powder. You can also use about ⅔ cup of minced fresh onion; however, you'll need to cook the onion with the ground beef so that it softens.
  • Add a dash of paprika to the sauce, or season with herbs such as parsley, rosemary, thyme, or basil.
  • For added texture, sprinkle cheese and a few buttered breadcrumbs over the top, and then place the skillet under the broiler for a few minutes. This will give it a crunchy, cheesy topping similar to mac and cheese.

Tips for the Best Homemade Hamburger Helper Recipe

  • Brown the hamburger first. This gives the beef color, and seals in the flavor.
  • Drain the fat. This is another important tip, since it's not only a healthier way of cooking, but it also prevents the finished dish from having a greasy texture.
  • Don't omit the brown sugar. In order to achieve great tomato flavor, it's important to balance acidity and sweetness. Too much acid or too much sugar yields a sauce that tastes one-dimensional. The right amount of sugar perfectly balances the acidity of the tomatoes. Start with about 2 teaspoons of sugar here, and add more to taste, if necessary.
  • The cheese garnish at the end is optional, but it sure adds great flavor! You can use shredded sharp cheddar cheese, Pepper Jack, Colby, Colby Jack, or any other good melting cheese. A sprinkling of Parmesan would also be nice.

This homemade Hamburger Helper recipe is a healthy comfort food! Whole grain pasta, minimally processed ingredients, and Greek yogurt for protein make this a healthy Instant Pot dinner recipe.

This Homemade Hamburger Helper is just as easy as the boxed version, but it tastes so much better. It’s a family friendly meal that you can make as spicy as you like. There are directions below for making it in the Instant Pot or right on the stove–it’s definitely a quick dinner recipe for busy weeknights.

Once you begin thinking about healthy eating goals, one of the first things to do are store bought meals. I do understand craving those meals though, so I decided that a quick and easy homemade Hamburger Helper recipe was a necessity for my readers! This family favorite is truly an easy dinner recipe.

Here at My Crazy Good Life, I make sure that everyone can cook my recipes–whatever your skill level in the kitchen. This recipe can be cooked in the Instant Pot or right on the stove, and I walk you through both instructions in the post below. Read that first for ingredient information, substitution tips, and other recipe tips.

If you are a whiz in the kitchen, scroll straight down to the printable recipe for Homemade Hamburger Helper and you’ll be good to go!

What is Hamburger Helper?

A total comfort food from my childhood, I remember how easy it was to pull out some hamburger meat and make dinner. There was aways leftover hamburger helper in my fridge at home, and boxes of this were pantry staples in my house.

Traditional Hamburger Helper is a boxed dinner, complete with white pasta and powdered sauce–both ingredients I don’t recommend if you’re waiting your weight or what you’re eating. If you loved Hamburger Helper as a kid, you’re going to love this recipe–I’ve been told it tastes like the cheeseburger macaroni dinner.

Boxed hamburger helper isn’t something I typically eat because of the processed ingredients and white pasta. This homemade recipe is an easy meal that picky eaters will love, but made with minimally processed real ingredients and extra protein. This version of the classic meal will keep you full for longer and because of the whole grains and extra protein.

  • Ground Beef: Be sure and grab at least 95% lean beef, or substitute fat-free ground turkey if you prefer.
  • Onions: Loaded with antioxidants, and studies show that onions can fight inflammation.
  • Green chiles: These spicy peppers can actually balance your blood sugar levels and improve your immune system. You can absolutely substitute these for green bell peppers if you’d like to remove the spice from this recipe. You can find canned green chilies in the grocery store next to the other Mexican-inspired items.
  • Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Pasta: Whole wheat noodles are perfect for this recipe. I used elbow macaroni, but egg noodles would be a bit more traditional for Hamburger Helper. The type of pasta doesn’t matter much here.
  • Low sodium beef broth: If you don’t have any, chicken broth or even water will do.
  • Tomato sauce: Be sure to grab one with low-sodium and no added sugar.
  • Want a creamier sauce for the Hamburger Helper? You’ll want to use the optional Greek yogurt and shredded cheese in this recipe. Any cheese works– cheddar cheese and colby jack are popular here.
  • If you’re looking for a delicious topping, plain Greek yogurt (a perfect swap for sour cream!), diced green onions, fresh parsley, and sliced jalapeños are perfect.
  • Need more spice? Add some hot sauce chili powder to the top of this recipe.
  • Want to add extra veggies? I’d add diced tomatoes, diced green peppers, and even cooked cauliflower rice.
  • Serve this recipe on its own or with some garlic bread.

This easy hamburger helper recipe is ready in less than 30 minutes.

  1. Press the Sauté button and spray the pot with cooking oil. Once hot, brown the ground beef until it’s no longer pink. Completely brown ground beef is fully cooked. If there is a lot of grease left over after browning, go ahead and drain that before moving to step 2.
  2. Add the diced onions, green chilis, paprika, and garlic powder. Give it a quick stir.
  3. Pour in the whole wheat pasta, low sodium broth, and tomato sauce.
  4. Close the lid and turn the pressure valve to sealing. Cook on high pressure using the manual setting (or pressure cook setting, depending on which model pressure cooker you’re using) for 3 minutes.
  5. Release the pressure using the quick release method. This means that you’ll open that sealing valve as soon as your recipe is done cooking and the steam will come out (fast and loud).
  6. Remove the lid and turn the Instant Pot off. Allow the food to cool for a few minutes, then mix in the Greek yogurt and cheese until the cheese is melted. Allowing the recipe to cool before adding Greek yogurt mixture helps to avoid curdling, which happens when dairy products are heated up too quickly.

The nutrition facts are calculated without the Greek yogurt and cheese because it’s how we prefer to make it. I wanted to give you the option of the creamy version!

How to make Stovetop Hamburger Helper

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet on the stove over medium high heat.
  2. Once beef is cooked thoroughly, stir in the diced onions, green chiles, paprika, and garlic powder.
  3. Pour the pasta, beef broth, and tomato sauce into the skillet. Mix it up gently.
  4. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to medium low and simmer the pot for 10-12 minutes, cooking pasta until it’s tender.
  5. Remove the lid and allow the recipe to cool for a few minutes, then mix in the Greek yogurt and cheese (optional).
  • If using Gluten Free pasta in the Instant Pot, cook this recipe for 1/2 the amount of time listed on the box of noodles.
  • You can easily control the spice of this recipe by adding more or less green chilis. Want it cooler? Replace all of the green chiles with green bell pepper. Hotter? Add a few jalapeños!
  • This recipe is great with ground turkey as well, no changes are required when switching from ground beef to other ground meats.
  • Read this if you’re using frozen ground beef to make this recipe.
  • I rarely add salt to my recipes so you can add salt and pepper to your individual taste.
  • To make this recipe dairy free, just skip the Greek yogurt and cheese–I often make this recipe dairy free at home!

Ingredients for Teriyaki Sauce

Before we get to prepping, let’s talk about all the different components required to achieve that perfect balance of flavor known to all great teriyaki sauces.

  • Tamari – A Japanese sauce made from fermented soybeans that adds an essential umami flavor
  • Brown Sugar – Brown sugar adds not only a rich sweetness, but a nice caramely note to the sauce
  • Honey – Honey adds another dimension of sweetness on top of the brown sugar, while also bringing thickness
  • Corn Starch – Corn starch is another key ingredient to thicken teriyaki sauce
  • Sesame Oil – Sesame oil adds a wonderful nuttiness
  • Mirin – Mirin is similar in taste to sake, but just a tad sweeter
  • Fresh Ginger & Garlic – Avoid powdered varieties, as the fresh stuff yields the best flavor

Helpful Tips & Tricks

A few key tips and tricks will help you make a teriyaki sauce so good, you’ll want to drizzle it over everything!

  • Whisk the sauce occasionally as it simmers. To prevent the sauce from burning on the bottom of the saucepan, whisk it every 30 or seconds while it’s on a simmer.
  • Allow the sauce to cool completely before storing it. To give the sauce a chance to thicken and set, allow it cool down completely before you add it into an airtight container.
  • Thicken the sauce with more cornstarch if it’s too thin. if you’re sauce is a bit too watery, you can always reheat it and thicken it with a cornstarch slurry.

Different Ways to Use Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Teriyaki sauce is super versatile and can be used in so many different ways. Here’s a couple of our favorites:

  • Over Protein: Use the teriyaki sauce to dress your grilled teriyaki chicken, air fryer salmon, or air fryer shrimp. Note: Toss the sauce after the meat has cooked to prevent it from caramelizing or burning.
  • Rice Bowl: Serve some grilled zucchini and mushrooms over a bowl of steamed white rice and a drizzle of homemade teriyaki sauce.
  • Stir Fries:  Make your favorite stir fry veggies and protein and toss in the teriyaki sauce like you would any other stir fry sauce.

Storage Best Practices

To keep teriyaki sauce fresh for up to 10 days, store it in an airtight container to prevent it from soaking up any smells lingering in your fridge. If you have one, store it in a sealable squirt bottle to make drizzling a no-brainer.

FAQ

Teriyaki sauce is a blend of savory, umami flavors and sweet brown sugar and honey. It’s perfect balance of flavors makes it a great cooking sauce, marinade, and glaze for so many different types of meat, veggies, and noodle dishes.

Teriyaki sauce is a thick, sweet sauce made with just a touch of soy sauce or tamari, while hoisin is a thick, sweet sauce made primarily of fermented soy beans.

The only difference between teriyaki marinades and teriyaki sauces is water content. If you want to transform this teriyaki sauce into a marinade, simply add 1/4 cup of water to help it absorb into whatever protein you’re trying to season.

Yes! You can freeze homemade teriyaki sauce for up to 3 months. To do so, let it first cool down completely and transfer it into an airtight jar with a lid. To thaw it, place it in the fridge overnight until it’s completely defrosted.

When I first eliminated eggs from my diet, buttermilk pancakes on a Sunday morning were one of the things that I missed the most.

Buttermilk pancakes are a Sunday morning tradition that dates back to my childhood. Cutting them out was depressing.

Buttermilk Pancakes Without Eggs

Fortunately, you can’t taste the difference if you replace the eggs with Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer. Even your egg gobbling family won’t know the difference. You don’t even need to tell them.

To make your buttermilk pancakes easy, cooking them on a large non-stick griddle is best. Doing two or more at a time speeds things up immensely. I have a Cuisinart Griddle that doubles as a panini press that works perfectly for pancakes since you can open it all the way up and lay it flat.

Each side works as a separate griddle.

If you spray a little vegetable oil on the griddle plate before you pour on the batter, it helps brown the pancakes and gives the edges that fantastic crispy texture.

Finally, I like to put a small pat of butter between each pancake. I know, that’s a lot of butter, but I don’t care. Pancakes are a weekend treat.

You can cheat a little, right?

Making these fluffy buttermilk pancakes without eggs is super-easy and nobody will be able to tell there's no eggs in them.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 3 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp. Bob's Red Mill Egg Replacer
  • 4 tbsp. water
  • 2 1/2 cups whole buttermilk
  • 3 tbsp. unsalted butter (melted)
  • cooking spray
  • Preheat your griddle to 325 degrees. If you are using a stove-top, preheat your pan on medium.
  • Add all of the dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk thoroughly.
  • Add the Egg Replacer to a small bowl, add the 4 tbsp. of water and mix thoroughly with a fork. Place the butter in a small container with a loose lid, and microwave for 30 seconds, or until melted.
  • Add the melted butter, buttermilk, and egg replacer to your flour mix. Mix in with a plastic spoon or spatula until all of the flour is wet, but plenty of lumps still remain.
  • Spray the griddle plates with cooking spray, then drop 3/4s of a cup of batter on each plate. Cook for 3 minutes, or until the bottoms have browned. Flip, then cook an additional 3 minutes, or until the tops have browned. Remove to a plate and place a thin pat of butter on each pancake. Continue until all pancakes are cooked.
  • Serve with quality maple or pancake syrup.

How To Make Strawberry Pancakes

It’s super easy to whip a batch of strawberry pancakes in the morning and a great way to use your over-ripe strawberries.

Ingredients

All you need to make these pancakes are:

  • All-Purpose Flour – learn how to measure flour properly.
  • Baking Powder
  • Maple Syrup or any sweetener you love, including regular sugar or coconut sugar.
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Soy Milk or almond milk.
  • Lemon Juice or apple cider vinegar.
  • Fresh Strawberries – you can use ripe strawberries, simply core the strawberries and cut them into small pieces.
  • Olive Oil or melted vegan butter.

Combining Ingredients

First, whisk soy milk, lemon juice, and olive oil in a mixing bowl. Set aside 2 minutes while you measure the dry ingredients.

Add in all-purpose flour, baking powder, and sweetener of choice.

Now, fold in the strawberries pieces and stir to combine.

Strawberry Pancakes

Cooking

Warm a pancake skillet or crepe pan over medium heat.

Grease the surface with coconut oil or olive oil using a piece of kitchen paper to rub the pan’s surface.

Pour 2-3 tablespoons of batter per pancake and cook for about 3 minutes or until the sides start to dry out and bubbles form on the top of the pancake.

Slide a flat tool under the pancake and flip to the other side.

Keep cooking for 1 minute or until golden brown.

Cool the strawberry pancakes down on a cooling rack while cooking the remaining batter.

Grease the pan before cooking more pancakes.

Serving

These strawberry pancakes are delicious on their own or topped with simple toppings like:

  • Maple syrup
  • Coconut yogurt
  • Whipped coconut cream
  • Melted dark chocolate

Filling

Of course, you can add some other ingredients to the pancake batter. The best adds-on with strawberries are:

  • White chocolate chips – plenty of dairy-free brands are available
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Unsweetened shredded coconut
  • Chopped almonds or pecans
Strawberry Pancakes

Storage

To prevent the pancakes from drying out, store these fruit-filled pancakes in the fridge, preferably in an airtight container or on a plate wrapped with plastic film wrap.

Rewarm the pancakes on a hot pancake griddle or serve them cold.

You can store the pancakes for up to 3 days in the fridge.

The last option is to freeze leftover pancakes in zip-lock bags. Thaw the pancakes in the fridge the day before eating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below I listed the answers to your most common questions about these vegan strawberry pancakes.

Can I Make This Recipe With Other Fruits?

Absolutely yes, this pancake recipe is light in taste, and it will be the perfect base to make blueberry pancakes or chocolate chip pancakes.

Can I Make The Pancakes Gluten-Free?

Yes, you can replace the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 all-purpose gluten-free flour blend.

The result will be different, less fluffy, and a bit chewy.

Can I Use Oat Flour?

You can replace half of the flour with homemade oat flour as a healthy option to boost the pancake fiber and protein.

I don’t recommend using only oat flour, or the pancakes are fragile and fall apart easily.

You can make oil-free strawberry pancakes, replace oil with applesauce, or a dairy-free yogurt option like soy yogurt or coconut yogurt works well.

Can I Use Frozen Strawberries?

Frozen fruits release water in pancake batter. It’s preferable if you thaw the fruits and discard the juice.

But, if you don’t have time to thaw the fruits, cut the frozen strawberries into small pieces and roll the cup of frozen fruits into 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.

How to Make Crepes?

06-05-2022 · Fill a blender with the mixture and close closely, pour into a mixing basin and cover tightly, then make crepes the next day. Crepes are best eaten immediately away, but you may make a batch ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for 1-2 days. Microwave or place on a parchment-lined baking pan to reheat (they can overlap).

06-05-2022

Crepes are skinny wheat flour pancakes that are a staple of traditional French cuisine. A thin flour batter is placed into a lightly oiled frying pan or round hot plate to make them, and the batter must be promptly spread uniformly over the hot surface to ensure consistent crepe thickness. Creperies and restaurants that provide a variety of crepes frequently use a special spatula explicitly created for this purpose.

How to Make Crepes

On the other hand, crepe fans who prepare the French dish at home can usually make beautiful thin pancakes by simply tilting the pan to divide the batter. Crepes must be turned at least once to cook both sides evenly. After they’ve been prepared, they can be rolled or folded with various seasonings.

What are Crepes?

Crepes are tiny, delicate French pancakes made without the use of leavener. They’re as thin as lace and have tempting buttery, crunchy edges when done right. Restaurants and catered events serve crepes, and I’ve even seen crepe stations at wedding celebrations! Crepes are delicious on any day, including dinner and dessert, though they’re typically served for breakfast or brunch. Crepes can be stuffed with anything from whipped cream and berries to meats, sauces, and veggies, and they don’t care when you eat them.

Melt the butter: Melt some butter in a microwave or on the stove. Allow for a few minutes of cooling before putting in the batter. (Alternatively, the eggs could be scrambled.)

Combine all ingredients in a blender: Combine the cooled melted butter with the remaining ingredients in a blender. Because it cuts the flour perfectly into all wet components, a blender works wonders for smoothing out the batter. If you don’t have a blender, whisk the ingredients together in a mixing basin.

Chill the batter: Chill it for 30-60 minutes before cooking the crepe batter. The taste, texture, and success of your crepes are all dependent on how long they spend in the refrigerator. Make use of this opportunity to clean up and prepare your skillet. The batter can even be chilled overnight and cooked the next day.

Butter and heat a small skillet: Butter the pan well and keep butter on hand to grease the pan between crepes. Professional chefs may use a specific crepe pan, but a small 8-inch skillet works well at home. If you don’t have a small one, use a larger skillet, but make sure the crepes are thin.

Cook crepes one at a time: Standing over the stove and cooking them one at a time over medium heat takes the longest part of this method. Only 3-4 Tablespoons of batter per crepe are required. (I use 3 Tablespoons most of the time.) The thinner the crepes are, the less you use them and the wider you stretch them.

Ingredients

The crepe batter can be made up to one day ahead of time. Fill a blender with the mixture and close closely, pour into a mixing basin and cover tightly, then make crepes the next day. Crepes are best eaten immediately away, but you may make a batch ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for 1-2 days. Microwave or place on a parchment-lined baking pan to reheat (they can overlap). Warm in a 275°F (135°C) oven for 10 minutes, covered with aluminum foil. Crepes can also be frozen; see the procedures below.

Although the recipe is stated below, you must understand why each component is utilized. Substitutions are not recommended for this delicate batter.

  • Unsalted Butter: Butter is an essential component. Make sure you have plenty of butter on hand for the skillet.
  • All-Purpose Flour: Another essential element is flour, which provides the overall structure. I haven’t found any successful gluten-free alternatives, but please let me know if you do!
  • Granulated Sugar: These are gently sweetened, and only 1 Tablespoon is required.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt adds flavour.
  • Whole Milk and  Water: Liquid is required for crepe batter. Using all water resulted in a limp and underwhelming crepe, but whole milk resulted in a heavy crepe. Use a combination of both for the best texture.
  • Eggs offer structure and bind all components together, just like they do in pancake batter.
  • Vanilla Extract: You’ll smell the vanilla when you cook these on the stove! If you’re making savoury crepes, you can leave it out.

What Types of Fillings can you Put Inside a Crepe?

One of the most popular fillings is smoked salmon and crème fraîche, which is simple to create on the savory side. Ham, cheese, and eggs could be stuffed into the crepe for brunch. “Making the crepe with buckwheat flour and filling it with spinach, mushrooms, or leeks provides a healthy savory choice and buckwheat flour pairs well with these vegetables.”

For a sweet treat, Rodier enjoys crepes filled with a hazelnut chocolate spread (think Nutella), whipped cream, and fresh berries. However, his all-time favorite crepe is called crepes Suzette. “Making this crepe with orange segments, zest, and a Grand-Marnier flambé finish is an art. It’s a delicacy that everyone should prepare at least once.

Are Crepes Healthy?

Crepes are a healthy meal that generally contains the following nutrients, though the nutritional content varies depending on the fillings and toppings used:

Calories: Crepes have fewer calories than other morning foods such as pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon since they are thin and frequently composed of buckwheat flour. A crepe with a diameter of roughly 10 inches has 90 calories or less, which is just 3.75 percent to 4.5 percent of the daily recommended intake of 2,000-2400 calories.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are essential in your diet since they promote metabolism and provide energy to your body. Crepes are high in carbs, with each 10-inch crepe containing 13 g.

Fat: While your body requires fat to function correctly, not all fats are helpful. Too much-saturated fat in your diet can boost your cholesterol levels, putting you at risk for heart disease. Crepes have a lower fat level than other foods, with each 10-inch crepe containing roughly 3 g of fat, just 1 g of which is saturated fat.

Sodium: The best source of sodium is salt. Although sodium helps keep blood pressure in check, too much of it can cause fluid retention and high blood pressure. Crepes usually have 210 mg of salt in them. To up the salt content, you might stuff your crepe with bacon slices and other meat.

Protein: Protein is required for tissue growth and repair in the body. Although crepes have a low protein value of roughly 4 g, you can boost your protein intake by making the filling and toppings with nut butter, yogurt, eggs, oats, almonds, and cottage cheese.

Sugar: Sugar is necessary for your body to function correctly, but too much of it can contribute to obesity and tooth damage. Crepes are moderately low in sugar, with only 4 g per serving. If you want to get more natural sugar into your diet, use chopped fruits as fillings in your crepes.

Cholesterol: Too much cholesterol can increase the risk of heart disease. The recommended daily consumption is 300 mg. Crepes have 40 mg of cholesterol, about a third of the recommended cholesterol intake.

What is the Flavour of Crepes?

Crepes are the European cousins of pancakes in the United States. Because the batter is thinner and there is no leavening agent to give them lift and make them fluffy like pancakes, they are bigger, thinner, and more delicate than pancakes. They also have a pancake-like flavor but aren’t as fluffy. One of the best things about crepes is that they can be either sweet for a dessert or savory for a wrap with vegetables or your favorite protein. Crepes are a delicious dinner, light meal, or breakfast option.

Conclusion

Crepes have become so popular that they can now be found in restaurants, street vendors, cafes, and other locations worldwide. However, if you want to experience a genuine crepe, go to a French restaurant that serves French food or a cafe on your next trip to France! Crepes are a fantastic choice for any meal, whether you want a tasty breakfast, lunch, supper, or a mid-day snack. Crepes are a thinned-out version of pancakes with a larger diameter that originated in France. Fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and cheese are frequently used as fillings, and they are commonly topped with nuts, sprinkles, syrups, and delectable sauces.

  • Tofu adds both protein and calories without changing the taste. Silken tofu works best.
  • Pre-cooked and cooled grains such as rice, oatmeal and barley can be added for additional calories and protein.
  • Peanut butter and other nut butters, such as almond or cashew, are great ways to add protein, calories and different flavors.
  • Protein powder or milk powder can be added to boost protein.
  • Ice cream can be a tasty way to add calories if your cholesterol isn’t too high.
  • Yogurt, especially whole milk yogurt, can also add calories and protein.

If you would like, you can pulse in 4-5 ice cubes, or pour over ice to keep cold and for consistency. Sprinkle a dash of nutmeg on top as an option.

Whew, Januarys gone, how did that happen to fast? I feel like I am still recovering from Christmas break!

You know still getting back into the swing of things, the routine, the taxi driving, all the usual parenting stuff here. Oh, and lets not talk about those resolutions shall we?

I was doing so well on my journey to a healthy lifestyle, working out daily, conscience about the food I was eating, actually eating breakfast. I mean I was on a mission. We recently spent the weekend in Wisconsin Dells and this lady had to get into a bathing suit and it had been since well, August! Yikes!

Weeks leading up to the trip were great. The trip was much-needed and quality family time was had by all. I felt great about myself and then we got home.

Healthy lifestyle be damned. I think I consumed all the food I had missed eating for weeks, in about 3 days time.

Now Im back to feeling like garbage. But its not too late. Nope, its February 1st and Im hopping back on that resolution train and Im riding it out!

Learn how to make the juiciest Air Fryer Chicken Breast in 25 minutes. It is easy, tender and bursting with flavor!

Close up for air fryer chicken breast sliced on a plate with garnish.

We love healthy chicken breast recipes around here! And we do not settle on dry and flavorless chicken.

I’ve already perfected recipes for grilled chicken breast, oven baked chicken breast and Instant Pot chicken breast. Now it’s time to perfect it in my latest gadget.

Cooking chicken in the air fryer results in juicy, tender chicken breast with a light, flavorful crust and tender, moist middle. Every single time!

My love for air fryer chicken recipes began with crispy air fryer chicken wings, air fryer chicken tenders, and juicy air fryer chicken drumsticks. Today we are making perfectly cooked air fryer chicken breasts!

Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • It’s quick: You can have air fryer chicken breast on the table in about 25 minutes.
  • Super easy: Short cooking time and a smaller machine make this recipe more economical.
  • The oil needed is minimal: Just enough to help the seasonings adhere and lock in the juices.
  • Failproof results: You’ll get wonderfully tender, juicy and moist chicken breast every single time!
  • No salt water brining is necessary!

One of the best things about this air fryer chicken breast recipe is that it is so simple and made up of entirely clean ingredients and pantry staples. You only need 6 basic ingredients.

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts: I use 8 – 9 oz and around 2-inches thickness breasts. If your chicken is larger or smaller, you may need to adjust the cooking time. See Tips section.
  • Oil of choice: I use avocado oil or olive oil.
  • Seasonings: I use a simple combination of onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, and smoked paprika. And salt and pepper.

Want a different spice blend? You can swap out the seasonings I’ve suggested with Italian seasoning, cajun spice or taco seasoning. For heat, add a little cayenne pepper or chili powder to the dry rub.

  • Preheat the air fryer and prep chicken: Preheat it to 380 degrees F for five minutes. Add chicken breasts to a bowl and drizzle with oil. Then rub using your hands or toss with tongs to coat.
  • Rub chicken with seasonings: Add the spice blend, salt and pepper, and then rub chicken to make sure both sides are evenly coated.
  • Air fry chicken breast: Spray the basket of air fryer with cooking spray, add chicken breasts in a single layer and cook for 16 minutes. No need to flip them or shake the basket.
  • Check the temperature: Open and insert meat thermometer into the thickest part of your chicken breasts to make sure it has reached at least 150 degrees F.

How Long to Cook Chicken Breast in the Air Fryer

Size Changes Everything

This depends on the size of your chicken breasts. For average-sized chicken breast that’s around 2-inches thick, I recommend between 16-18 minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the chicken reaches 150 degrees F.

Here is a handy timetable for quick reference:

  • Small Breasts (5 to 7 ounces): 14 minutes
  • Medium Breasts (8 to 9 ounces): 16 minutes
  • Large Breasts (10 ounces or more): 18 minutes

Let It Rest

Make sure to allow it to rest for 5 minutes to allow juices to redistribute and chicken to finish cooking.

As per food safety website, to be safe to eat, chicken must reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. However, there’s no need to cook it until that point. I recommend cooking the chicken until it’s 150 degrees F and the residual heat will then continue to increase the internal temperature while the chicken rests.

You get to avoid dry, overcooked chicken. It is my secret to juicy and not dry chicken breasts.

Chicken Breasts Came Out Undercooked

Thought you had the right time but your chicken came out undercooked? After checking with the instant read thermometer, if you see temperature is below 150 degrees F, cook it for extra 2 minutes.

It sure is a delicate balance and figuring out the cooking time based on size, your air fryer and personal preferences. It is a matter of practice.

Pro Tips for Best Air Fried Chicken Breast

For best results follow the below tips!

  • No need to brine: Dry rub and optimal cooking temperature and method, will take care of juicy chicken breasts.
  • Size matters: I recommend to pick the same size breasts for even cooking when shopping. Also know the weight of each piece to select correct cooking time.
  • Cook in a single layer: The air needs to circulate the chicken to get the job done. Overlapping or stacking the chicken will affect the cooking results.
  • There’s no need to shake the basket: While flipping can help to yield crispier results, this dry rub chicken breast isn’t intended to be super crispy, so leaving it alone will help avoid dry chicken.
  • Allow it to rest: Once cooked, transfer the air fried chicken breast to a large foil covered platter and allow it to rest for 5 minutes to allow the juices to settle and redistribute.

FAQs

What type of air fryer to use?

Over the years I have tried a few air fryers. There is a basket style air fryer, toaster oven air fryer and a lid attachment for an Instant Pot. They all work great and choice will depend on personal preference. Are you cooking for 2 or 4 people? Do you have space for another appliance? Are you busy? Take these things into consideration when shopping.

I use a large 5.8 quart Cosori air fryer. I cook for 4 people. I say the biggest concern I hear is that air fryer is too small. The attachment lid or small basket would fit maximum 2 chicken breasts and you would have to cook in batches. You can always pop back in for a minute to reheat the first batch.

Also when air frying food, it needs some space in between to ensure roasted results we all crave from the air fryer.

How Long To Cook Split Peas

19-03-2022 · Instructions. In a large pot, heat the olive oil on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion and celery for 3 minutes. Cook for an extra minute after adding the garlic. Combine the water and chicken broth into the sauteed mixture on the stovetop. Also pour in the split peas, thyme, and bay leaves, and thyme.

Most individuals don’t get the pleasure of eating split peas on a regular basis, except for one-time soup recipes. Split peas are an inexpensive, delicious, and protein-rich fiber source. They also cook quickly, unlike their more picky cousins (no offense to chickpeas and dried beans). As a result, they’re fantastic if you’re looking for a quick (and nutritious!) supper choice.

Here, you’ll learn how to cook split peas in order to achieve desirable results with your recipes. A word of advice, stick to our cooking instructions and pay attention to timing guidelines and helpful tips for the best results.

Tips for Cooking Split Peas

The following tips will help you achieve satisfactory results every time you’re cooking a split pea-based recipe, so we advise you to pay attention:

What are split peas? – Dried split peas are essentially one and the same with regular green peas that are usually served as a supper side dish. The distinction is in the way both pea types are processed. Split peas are typically shelled, dried, and then split into halves along the natural border of the pea’s pod, making them faster to cook than fresh peas.

Split peas tend to be high in fiber content, iron, zinc, plant-based protein, and phosphorus, among other nutrients. They’re a fantastic compliment to a wide range of meals.

Split peas versus green lentils – Split peas and green lentils appear quite similar, but they come from two different plants. Split peas and green lentils can typically be used interchangeably in many recipes that call for split peas and vice versa. However, it is important to note that split peas tend to have a flavor that is somewhat sweeter, as well as a creamier texture. Green lentils, on the other hand, can have a rough texture and an earthy flavor.

In terms of the comparative health benefits of both split peas and green lentils, both are high in protein, fiber, and minerals derived from plants. Both are fantastic additions to your diet!

You don’t need to soak split peas before cooking – Even without soaking, split peas still tend to cook relatively rapidly. However, if you have stomach troubles with lentils and split peas, a presoak may be beneficial. Simply soak the dried split peas in cold water in a big dish. Allow soaking overnight at room temperature. Afterward, drain the peas and rinse them before cooking when it’s time.

Cooking solo – Split peas are usually prepared as part of a dish, such as a soup, but they can also be cooked separately for salads or as part of a delicious grain bowl. Here’s how to do it:

  • Pick through the dry split peas in a dish or on a tray. Searching for any kind of trash. The split peas should next be rinsed well in a sieve.
  • Fill a pot halfway with split peas and your favorite cooking liquid, you could use water, but vegetable broth or bone broth are also fine choices.
  • Boil the peas over high heat, stirring constantly, then lower to low heat, cover, and cook until the peas are soft but not mushy and the liquid has been absorbed. It should take around 20 minutes to complete.

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion and celery for 3 minutes. Cook for an extra minute after adding the garlic.
  2. Combine the water and chicken broth into the sauteed mixture on the stovetop.  Also pour in the split peas, thyme, and bay leaves, and thyme. Use a pinch of salt to season the mixture, then add pepper to taste also (it’s a good idea to wait until the end before adding more salt; this will help you to see the degree of saltiness the ham has imparted into the soup first, then add extra salt if necessary).
  3. Place the ham bone in the soup. Boil the mixture, then lower to a gentle heat. Cover the soup and cook, turning occasionally, for 60 to 80 minutes, or until the peas and ham become soft.
  4. Remove the ham from the broth and set it aside to rest for 10 minutes before shredding or dicing the meat component into pieces and covering it.
  5. In the meantime, add the carrots to the soup. Cover the soup and let it keep cooking, make sure to stir periodically while this happens, and let the cooking last for another 30 minutes or until peas have more or less broken down.
  6. Season with extra salt if necessary after adding the ham to the soup. If preferred, sprinkle with parsley and serve warm.

This recipe for split pea soup is a great way to use up split peas, adding extra flavor by introducing some ham into the mix. The results are delicious and flavorful, a healthy soup that you and your family can enjoy whenever you please.

The entire cooking duration for this recipe is 2 hours, with a prep time of 15 minutes and an active cook time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you’d like to see more ways to cook with split peas, then we recommend this video recipe for some great ideas.
